8.2% a year for October to December 2026, paid every quarter. Your deposit keeps the rate it was opened at.
How much can I invest in SCSS?
₹1,000 to ₹30 lakh, in multiples of ₹1,000.
Who can open an SCSS account?
Residents aged 60 or more; 55 to 60 after voluntary retirement; 50 or more for retired defence personnel.
Is SCSS interest taxable?
Yes. The deposit counts for 80C under the old regime, but the interest is taxable. If your interest from the post office or bank is over ₹1 lakh in a year, TDS may be deducted. Form 15H can avoid it if the tax on your total income is nil.
