Can I put more than ₹1.5 lakh a year in PPF?
No. ₹1.5 lakh is the yearly limit, including deposits in a minor's account you hold.
Is PPF interest taxable?
No. Deposits count for 80C under the old regime, and both the interest and the maturity amount are tax-free.

What is the PPF interest rate now?
7.1% a year for October to December 2026. The government reviews it every quarter.
How is PPF interest calculated?
Interest is worked out monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month, and added to your account once a year. Deposit by 5 April to earn interest on it for the whole year.
How much will ₹1.5 lakh a year in PPF become?
About ₹40.68 lakh after 15 years at 7.1%, if you deposit by 5 April each year. You'd have invested ₹22.5 lakh.
Can I extend my PPF after 15 years?
Yes, in blocks of 5 years, with or without new deposits. Apply within a year of maturity.
Is PPF tax-free?
Yes. Deposits count for 80C under the old regime, and the interest and maturity amount are tax-free under both regimes.
Can I withdraw from PPF early?
Partial withdrawals are allowed from the 7th financial year. Loans are available from the 3rd to the 6th year.
