Not if you pay the tax on that gain in the remaining instalments, by 31 March. Then there's no interest for the earlier dates on that part.

Common questions
Who has to pay advance tax?
Anyone whose tax for the year, after TDS and TCS, is ₹10,000 or more. For salaried people this usually happens when you have rent, interest, capital gains or freelance income. Residents aged 60 or more with no business or professional income don't have to pay it.
What are the advance tax due dates?
15 June (15% of the year's tax), 15 September (45% in total), 15 December (75%) and 15 March (100%). For FY 2026-27, the last date is 15 March 2027.
What is interest under section 234C?
Interest for paying an instalment late or short: 1% a month for 3 months on the shortfall (1 month for the March instalment). There's no interest for June if you paid at least 12%, or for September if you paid at least 36%.
What is interest under section 234B?
If the advance tax you paid by 31 March is less than 90% of your tax after TDS, you pay 1% a month on the unpaid tax from 1 April until you pay it. Part of a month counts as a full month.
I missed an instalment. What should I do?
Pay as soon as you can. Interest under 234C is fixed per instalment, but paying the next instalments in full avoids interest under 234B.
How do I pay advance tax?
Online on the income tax e-filing portal through e-Pay Tax, choosing advance tax as the payment type. Keep the challan details for your return.
Does TDS on my salary count as advance tax?
No, but it's subtracted first. Advance tax is only due on the tax left after TDS and TCS.
