Receipts are only part of an HRA claim

Your employer may also want a rent agreement and your landlord's PAN. Our experts check your claim before you submit it.

Questions people often ask

Can I pay rent to my parents and claim HRA?

Yes, if you genuinely pay them and they own the home. They must show the rent as income in their own return.

Do I need receipts if I pay by bank transfer?

Employers usually still ask for them. The bank record backs them up.

More than a receipt

Everything your HRA claim needs.

  1. A receipt for every month, with the amount in words and space for the landlord's signature.
  2. A summary for your employer: each month, the total and your declaration.
  3. The tax you save: the HRA these receipts make tax-free, and where more rent stops helping.

Last reviewed 9 October 2026. HRA and the landlord PAN rule come from the Income Tax Department's guidance for salaried people.

Common questions

How is this different from other rent receipt generators?

Besides the receipts, it makes a summary page for your employer, handles a rent change during the year, flags when you need your landlord's PAN or a revenue stamp, and shows the HRA your receipts make tax-free. It all runs on your device.

What should a rent receipt include?

Your name, the landlord's name, the rented home's address, the amount, the month it's for, how you paid, the date, and the landlord's signature. Add the landlord's PAN if rent is over ₹1 lakh a year.

When do I need my landlord's PAN?

When the rent you pay is more than ₹1 lakh a year. Your employer will ask for it to allow your HRA.

Do rent receipts need a revenue stamp?

Receipts for cash payments over ₹5,000 should have a ₹1 revenue stamp, signed across by the landlord.

Can I claim HRA in the new regime?

No. HRA exemption is only available in the old regime.

Is my information uploaded?

No. The receipts are made in your browser and printed from it. Nothing you type here is sent to us.

How do I save the receipts as a PDF?

Tap "Print or save as PDF", then choose "Save as PDF" as the printer. On a phone, use the share or print option.

Why doesn't paying more rent raise my HRA exemption?

The exemption is the lowest of three limits: HRA received, rent minus 10% of basic, and 50% (metro) or 40% of basic. Once rent is high enough, another limit caps it, and we show you where.
