Why is my tax so high just above ₹12.75 lakh?
Below ₹12 lakh of taxable income the rebate wipes out the tax. Just above, marginal relief limits the tax to the income above ₹12 lakh, so it rises quickly.
Should I ask for NPS in my CTC?
Employer NPS contributions (80CCD(2)) cut tax even in the new regime, up to 14% of basic.

Common questions
How much of a raise do I keep?
It depends on your tax bracket. A 10% raise on ₹12 lakh adds about ₹6,100 a month to take-home under the new regime.
What is marginal relief?
Just above ₹12 lakh of taxable income, your tax can't exceed the income above ₹12 lakh. It stops a small raise from costing more in tax than it adds.
Is this my exact take-home?
It's salary less income tax. Your payslip also deducts PF, professional tax and any other deductions.
